ANNOUNCEMENTS

All envirothon team members need to meet in R. Wilson's classroom after school on Monday, October 27 to prepare for their presentation.

History Club will meet in Mr. Pounds' room on Tuesday October 28 @ 6:00 PM

Academic Team will meet in Mr. Pounds' room on Tuesday October 28 after school.

The Scholastic Book Fair begins Monday the 20th in the Library at 7:40 am and will be open after school until 3:30 pm through Wednesday.  During the parent/teacher conferences it will be in the MS Lobby from 1 pm until 7 pm.  It will also be open on Monday the 27th 7:40 to 3:30 pm.

FCCLA is hosting a 5K Zombie Run/Walk on Saturday, October 25th.  Line up is at 4pm, Run starts at 4:30.  $20 per runner, due at registration.  You will get a shirt the week after the run.  Dress up in your favorite Halloween costume or Zombie clothes.  Face painting will be offered at the time of registration

FCCLA members:  Our regional meeting in Hartville is Tuesday the 28th.  You must stop by Mrs. Steelman's room by Thursday to pay your $5 and get a permission form!!!

The ACT test is given this Saturday, Oct. 25, for those who registered.  Remember to be here before 8 am, bring your admissions ticket and a form of a picture ID.

Internship logs are due to the Guidance Office for the week ending 10/17/14.

Job Opportunity:  A patron is needing some gravel shoveled and is willing to pay a student to do this.  Sign up at the Guidance Office if you're interested.

GUIDANCE OFFICE

Juniors and Seniors:   MSU-West Plains Red Carpet days trip is full. If you are going on the trip you will need to return your permission form and have all fines and fees paid before you can go.  Deadline for those who signed up to turn in their permission slips and have their fines/fees paid is Nov. 5.

 
Cox College is having an open house Nov. 1 from 11 am to 2 pm.  If you could like a copy of the flyer, please stop by the guidance office.


On Nov. 13th there will be a financial aid night at the high school at 6:30 PM.  If you or your parents would like to attend, you can sign up at the guidance office so we know how many handouts are needed.  MSU-West Plains will be the presenter for the evening but the information will be generic and can be applied to other schools.  


Willow Springs High School will once again host the Chad Cargill ACT Workshop. It will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2015 from 8:30-11:30 in our Bear's Den.  The cost is the same as the previous years, $30 per student.  Deadline to sign up and pay for the workshop at the guidance office is Nov. 14th. 

IMPORTANT!  Career Day will Nov 19th.  This year we will be using arena scheduling to sign up for career presentations.  Sign up will be based on student's October attendance and class (i.e. Senior with perfect attendance for October will be first.  Once the senior class has signed up, then the Junior with perfect attendance for October will be next and so on.).

WHAT'S NEW

School will dismiss at 12:34 p.m. today for Parent/Teacher Conferences. 

There is no school tomorrow, Oct. 24th. 

If your parents do not come to parent/teacher conference, you may pick up your 1st quarter grade card Monday from the Guidance Office.

There will be a Student Council meeting for all Tier 1 students during Atlas on Thursday, Oct. 30 in Ms. Welch's room.

If you are planning on playing basketball you must have a current sports physical before the first practice, Oct. 31st.  If you had a physical after February 1, 2014, you may check in Guidance Office to see if we have one on file.  

There will be no basketball conditioning today due to parent teacher conferences.

What are your true colors when it comes to bulling?  We at HHS care about having a safe school and a supportive community. Make your color orange on National Unity Day.   This is the day everyone can come together in our school, community and online.  Help send one large ORANGE message of support, hope and unity.  Please wear orange TOMORROW to support anti bullying.

Belcher Scholarship.  Applications can be picked up at the guidance office.  They must be typed and returned to the guidance office by December 1st.  A Word document version can be provided if you bring a device to download it on.  

5 Profile in Courage Essay Contest.  Submission Deadline is January 5, 2015

Contest topic and guidelines:
In 1,000 words or less, describe and analyze
an act of political courage by a U.S. elected
official who served during or after 1956.
Essays must be at least 700 words long, but
no more than 1,000 words.

- $10,000 first place prize and an expense-paid
trip to Boston with family and nominating teacher.

SENIORS:  The United States JCI Senate Foundation awards $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the United States who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The Missouri JCI Senate will pick 2 nominees to represent Missouri for the US JCI Senate scholarships.  The Missouri JCI Senate will present these 2 winners each a $250 scholarship.  This is available to Missouri residents only. The deadline for entries is postmarked Jan 9, 2015. The application form can be downloaded from:

Seniors:   Drury University and Cox College will begin the third Dual Degree Cohort in Cabool, MO. Students who participate in this cohort will have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Drury, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Cox College.  If you would like more information, stop by the Guidance office.

Oct. 21st will be ASVAB testing.  All sophomores will be expected to test as well as Juniors and Seniors who do not have ASVAB scores on file.  The guidance office will be notifying these students individually.  In addition, if you are a Junior or Senior who is interested in a military career, you can sign up at the guidance office to re-take the ASVAB on the 21st.
