School Closure Extended

After consulting with the Houston School Board, Texas County Memorial Hospital, the Texas County Health Department, and other surrounding school districts, we have made the decision to extend school closure to at least April 24th.

We know this decision will create a hardship for many. The purpose of this certainly is for the safety of our students and staff, but also to avoid bringing together 1,200 students and staff on a daily basis to increase the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus throughout our community. While we understand that Texas County does not have any positive cases currently in the county, it is a question of when, not if this begins.

April 24th is a tentative date that most schools in the state have set. All SCA school will be using this date. Some surrounding schools around us will be extending closure for longer. We know this could and will probably change. We will continue to monitor recommendations from our local health department, TCMH, DESE(Department of Elementary and Secondary Education), as well as guidance and recommendations from the state and federal levels.

In the meantime, we will continue meal distribution on Mondays from 10:00-12:00.

Building office hours will continue as scheduled:

Elementary 9:00-11:00 on Tuesday and Thursday

High School/Middle School 9:00-11:00 Monday through Friday.

These hours are for calling with questions or other matters. Visitors will not be allowed in the buildings without a prior appointment.

More information regarding instruction and activities will follow. Our staff has been and will continue working on instructional plans and either have been or will be contacting students over the next week to monitor and answer questions.

Thank you,

Allen Moss
