πŸ“š First-Grade Reading Challenge Success! πŸŽ‰

Our first-grade students were challenged to read 400 minutes during the month of November β€” and they rose to the occasion!

To celebrate their hard work and dedication, students who met their goal enjoyed a special trip to the Texas County Library. We’re so proud of their commitment to reading! πŸ“–βœ¨

Arrival & Dismissal Safety Reminder πŸŽ’

As our children come and go from school, it’s critical we keep their safety top-of-mind… especially when it comes to how they’re secured in the vehicle.

βœ… According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), nearly 73% of child restraint systems are not used correctly in traffic crashes.
βœ… Under Missouri law:
All children under age 8 must ride in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they weigh at least 80 pounds or are at least 4β€²9β€³ tall.
Children less than 4 years old or under 40 pounds must be in a proper child safety seat per manufacturer usage instructions.
Children ages 4-7 who weigh at least 40 pounds must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they meet the 80 lb or 4β€²9β€³ threshold.
Children 8 and over, or who weigh at least 80 pounds, or who are at least 4β€²9β€³ tall, must be secured by a lap-and-shoulder belt or an appropriate booster for them.

πŸ” Why this matters at school arrival/dismissal time:
Every day when your child is dropped off or picked up, those few minutes are moments of transition β€” increased distractions, many cars, students walking or crossing. Making sure your child is buckled correctly removes one variable from the risk.
Because so many restraints are used incorrectly, even if you are using a car seat or booster, it matters that it is installed and fastened properly. Check the owner’s manual and/or consult a certified child-passenger safety technician.
Setting the habit now builds a lifetime of safe behavior. Being consistent at school drop-off and pickup builds that foundation.

πŸ“Œ What you can do:
β€’ Before you hit β€œgo” at drop-off or pickup, do a quick check: is your child’s restraint appropriate for their age/height/weight? Is it installed and used exactly according to instructions?
β€’If you haven’t recently, consider scheduling a check with a certified technician to verify your child restraint is installed correctly. Call the school to schedule an appointment with the certified technician on staff.
β€’Talk with your children: β€œWe buckle up before we leave / arrive the school property.” Make it part of the routine.
β€’Spread the word! Share this message with other parents, guardians, caregivers β€” especially during busy school-drop off and pick-up times.

πŸ’‘ Bottom line:
Your child arriving to school and leaving school property safely means more than just walking through the door. It means starting that trip safely, properly restrained. Let’s make every ride count.

πŸšŒπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Houston 6th Graders Visit the Missouri Capitol! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸšŒ

Our 6th grade students had an exciting and educational day in Jefferson City as they toured the Missouri State Capitol! Students explored the historic building, learned about Missouri’s government, and saw firsthand where important decisions for our state are made.
They also had the opportunity to walk the Capitol grounds, view beautiful artwork and architecture, and deepen their understanding of Missouri history and civic responsibility.
We’re proud of our students for representing Houston so well and grateful for the experiences that help bring learning to life!
