INSIDE OUR CLASSROOMS 🐯 Through a partnership with the University of Missouri Extension (MU Extension), middle school students in Mrs. Olivia Poynter's science classes successfully hatched 16 chicks over a 21-day process of observing, assisting and discussing the incubation process. The chicken eggs came from Mrs. Poynter's home, and the incubator was loaned from the MU Extension. Students learned life and science skill development as the tracked days as well as temperature and humidity of the incubator daily. Mrs. Poynter discovered some of her students had previously raised and incubated chicks, ducks, or even turkeys, and they were able to offer assistance #HoustonFutureReady

Our fifth graders had a great trip Tuesday to Wilson's Creek, site of the first major Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi River. The costly Southern victory on August 10, 1861, focused national attention on the war in Missouri. Wilson’s Creek commemorates and interprets the battle within the context of the war in the Trans-Mississippi West. #TheBestWillBe
