Next week is ♦️♦️ Hoop Queen Spirit Week ♦️♦️ at Houston High School! Students are encouraged to participate in each themed day while being dressed in school appropriate clothing. The annual Hoop Queen coronation 👑 is 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, prior to the boys' basketball home game. Saturday night is the Hoop Queen Dance 🕺💃 from 6-9 p.m. inside the Chamber Building at the Fairgrounds. Dress is school appropriate but there will be a prize for the best dressed male and female. Snacks and drinks provided. 🟥 #TheBestWillBe 🟥

The Houston R-1 Bands Winter Guard participated Saturday in a showcase at Clever High School. The event gave students an opportunity to perform their show for winter guard students and families from other schools including Reeds Spring, Hollister, Neosho, Branson, Marionville and Clever. 🟥 #TheTigerWay 🟥

📣 Introducing a new member to our team, Alycia Sykes. She was recently hired as a paraprofessional in the district by the board of education. 🟥 YEARS IN EDUCATION: First. 🟥 ABOUT MRS. SYKES: "I spend most of my time at my kids' practices and games. If we have any free time, we enjoy going to the river or exploring. The kids love when we go to rocky falls, Elephant Rock or Branson. We spend a lot of time with friends and family, cooking, watching movies or at the river. And I love fishing, gardening and working with our farm animals." 🟥 WHY SHE IS EXCITED TO JOIN OUR TEAM: "As a mom of three, I love working with kids and I'm excited to be more involved with the school district and community."

RABY: "I am a mother to an 8-year-old son who attends Houston Schools as well as our second baby that is due in July. I love spending time with my family outdoors and traveling and antiquing in different states as my husband travels for work." 🟥 WHY SHE IS EXCITED TO JOIN OUR TEAM: "I love seeing the excitement on the kids' faces every day. I look forward to helping others excel, and I hope to one day further my career and one day become an elementary teacher."

INSIDE OUR CLASSROOMS 🐯 Eighth graders in Mrs. Mandy Adey's Careers class are touring State Technical College of Missouri on Friday. Students tested in areas of their "career cluster" inventory and discovered interests in programs the technical college offers.

Olivia Crites is the HHS Student-Athlete of the Month for December 🐯🏀 A senior forward for the Lady Tigers basketball team, Olivia has started every game this season and leads the team in scoring and rebounding. She is also the reigning Female Athlete of the Year at HHS as a three-sport athlete. Congratulations Olivia!
