At Houston School District, student safety is always the top priority!
We are proud to have a dedicated and professional transportation team that works hard every day to ensure our students travel safely to and from school.
As part of National School Bus Safety Week, each of our buses participated in student evacuation drills this week. These hands-on drills gave students the opportunity to practice proper evacuation procedures and learn what to do in the event of an emergency.
But safety doesn't stop after National School Bus Safety Week! Throughout the school year, our transportation team regularly conducts safety drills and bus safety checks to ensure our buses are prepared, our students know what to do in an emergency, and safety remains a priority every day.

Our Houston Elementary first graders have been busy learning all about common and proper nouns, but their lessons haven't stopped at the classroom door!
Students have been taking their learning outside the classroom and into our community, discovering how the things they learn in school connect to the world around them.
As part of their latest adventure, students took a school bus tour around Houston, becoming noun detectives as they identified people, places, animals, and things throughout our town! π
After exploring Houston, students brought their discoveries back to the classroom and put their creativity to work designing and building their very own version of Houston, Missouri β Noun Town!
This project was about more than just identifying nouns. It gave students the opportunity to take what they've learned in class, apply it to familiar places in their hometown, and see firsthand how classroom lessons connect to everyday life.
What a great way to combine learning, creativity, teamwork, and a little hometown pride!

π§Ά HHS CROCHET CLUB : MEET THE FIREFLY FIBERS!
The Houston High School Crochet Club is off to a great start this year!
With so many new members joining the club, students are having a wonderful time learning new skills, creating unique projects, and building friendships along the way. It's exciting to see students come together over a shared interest and discover what they can create with a little patience, creativity, and yarn!
HAVE EXTRA YARN?
The club relies on donations to keep students creating, and with so many new members this year, supplies are running low!
Do you have extra yarn sitting around that you're no longer using? Maybe you know someone with a stash they'd love to clear out? The Firefly Fibers would gladly put it to good use!
Donated yarn will help students get started on new projects and continue growing their skills throughout the year. Please contact Ms. Ford at cford@houston.k12.mo.us to donate.

School will dismiss early at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 to allow time for Parent-Teacher Conferences.
β’ Elementary car riders and walkers will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. Buses will leave the elementary school at approximately 12:40 p.m. (depending on if the MS/HS bus dismissal is on time).
β’ ECC will dismiss at noon.
β’ Middle School and High School will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
π Elementary Conferences (Grades PreKβ5)
Doors to the ECC and Elementary will open at 1:00 p.m. for conferences. Conferences will end at 6:45 p.m. Teachers reached out to parents to schedule meeting times. Mrs. Munson has served in administrative leadership with the Houston R-I School District since becoming principal of Houston Middle School in 2018. In 2022, she became principal of Houston High School, where she continues to lead and support students and staff each day.
From supporting students as they prepare for graduation and life beyond high school to encouraging staff, celebrating student success, and helping create a positive school culture, Mrs. Munson plays an important role in the daily life of HHS.
