Houston's Special Olympics team hosted a basketball competition Saturday with 21 athletes representing four area school districts competing in dribbling, passing and shooting. Our athletes won a combined six medals! We celebrate all the athletes who competed in our first competition on campus and thank our friends from Ava, Success and Cabool for participating. We also thank West Plains Bank and Trust Company for providing lunch for all the athletes, coaches and volunteers.

February is CTE Month as we honor the men and women who lead our students in Career and Technical Education. And at Houston, we have some of the absolute best teaching and training students at the Piney River Technical Center!
Our CTE opportunities prepare our young people for the job market and/or further education. The programs combine academics and job-specific skill training to assist in narrowing the skills gap.

How many people can say they have a photo with the governorβοΈ Members of Houston R-1 FFA were part of βDrive your Tractor to Work Dayβ on Thursday as part of National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week. Missouri high schools brought hundreds of FFA students to the Capitol to greet Gov. Parson as he made his way up the circle drive. The students then went into the Capitol building for their Careers in Agriculture Day.
Our students got a first-hand look at vintage and new tractors as well as the opportunity to meet up with some of their Summersville FFA friends. A few HHS FFA members got interviewed for the Missouri FFA page!
