INSIDE OUR CLASSROOMS 🐯 Cynthia Ramsey, Progressive Ozark Bank Brand Manager, was one of the guest speakers this past week in Mrs. Mandy Adey's eighth grade Careers class. She talked to the students about how important reliability, trustworthiness and communication are in her line of work. She shared about different career opportunities involved with banking: personal banker, tellers, lenders, loan officers, marketing, auditors, lawyers, accountants, security, and other jobs that are behind the scenes of a bank. She discussed what to look for in new employees. Mrs. Ramsey stressed the importance of being professional and having good grammar. You have to have good typing skills, to send emails, texts, chats and hold conversations with clients on the phone and in person. Communication, leadership skills, character, responsibility, time management, and trust are all the things banks look for in their employees. The students learned all about credit scores, their importance on the roles they can play in their lives, and the process of getting loans, and being able to buy things in the future, and how to establish a good line of credit when they turn 18. Her advice to the students was she challenged them to keep a register of their account balances and match them up monthly. Thank you, Mrs. Ramsey, for taking part of your day to share such important, helpful and practical wisdom and advice with our students. We appreciate your partnership and investment! πŸŸ₯ #OurTeamOurTown πŸŸ₯

Careers
INSIDE OUR CLASSROOMS 🐯 This week in Mrs. Mandy Adey's eighth grade Careers class, Mrs. Jennifer Scheets shared her experiences and expertise related to real estate, management and the restaurant business. Mrs. Scheets works three jobs - a local restaurant business owner, real estate agent for 10 years, and manager of Houston Housing Authority - while also being a full-time mom of five girls and our local school board president. Mrs. Scheets talked to the students about how to earn a real estate license and different aspects of careers in real estate and the education you need to get it, which can be self-paced and is good to fall back on. She shared what it takes to own your own business. She said starting from the bottom and working your way up knowing every position is what she did to get to be an owner. She also talked about how the restaurant business takes up a lot of time, or any business you start, you are practically married to it. She said any business you run or manage involves hard work and dedication. She talked about all the work behind the scenes, responsibilities, taxes, different careers involved within a restaurant business and how important public relations is dealing with customers and having good people skills. It's all about teamwork, being a team player and getting along with others to have a positive work culture. Mrs. Scheets also spoke about her previous career in nursing for two years, and the advantages of being a nurse and all the careers that go along with nursing. She stressed how important it is to have a good work ethic and again having good communication skills is key in all areas of employment. Sometimes the more hands-on experience you have can be key, and better than education in some lines of work. Thank you, Mrs. Scheets, for taking time to share your knowledge and experiences with our students. We appreciate your partnership, investment and all you do! πŸŸ₯ #OurTeamOurTown πŸŸ₯
